This bore was drilled on a suburban block on top of a ridge in Harare, Zimbabwe. Soft shale was encountered all the way down to 50m, where it firmed up just as we hit water, which turned everything to mud. The hole was cased and gravel packed to 50m and then drilled further to 62m and developed. The end result was 40L/min of good clean water and a very happy customer (despite the mess, which we did clean up!).

Deep Rock Drill
A Deep Rock drill which we purchased in Zimbabwe and upgraded. Note oversized Staffa on the head which was promptly replaced with a smaller, more suitable drive motor that didn't twist rods off every time they grabbed in the hole.

Home Made Drill
This home made (not by us though) drill may look pretty rough, but we did take it down to 120m once......with 2m rods. That's a lotta rods to pull out manually!! Mast, head, controls, trailer....in fact most of the rig ended up being up-graded, but this was our first hydraulic drill and it gave ys a good start. We used to put in about 3 to 5 bores a week with this old thing.
